PRINTMAKER PROFILE

ARTIST STATEMENT

I am a multimedia Original Print and Textile artist who combines original printmaking techniques to achieve vibrant, layered images. I embellish the printed image with varying degrees of applied stenciling, stitching, collage and triple viscosity inking to achieve one-off unique pieces. My images are organic and abstract by design. I am fascinated by the possibilities of juztaposing micro and macro motifs to reflect the opulence and diversity of the Natural World and the known Unoiverse. My impetus is often an observed, remembered or imagined aspects of the Natural World from my collective visual memory. My finished images settle and make their own sense in my mind’s eye and I enjoy the dozens of informed decisions that are made in the layering process.

I respond to printmaking as a conceptual invention for design and as an act of Craftmanship. The interplay of controlled versus experimental decision-making suits my creative process for self-expression. My works are usually one-off Monoprints but although I do not do editions as such I usually do a few variants that could be considered a mini print run. The joy is in the doing, printmaking is the gift that keeps on giving.
