Michelle Koleszko

I am a letter press practitioner and writer based in Leeds, Yorkshire. My background is in scriptwriting. I also have years of experience teaching media studies. I have always been inspired by storytelling and the power of the written word. My art medium is letterpress; I create word-based prints that consider composition, colour and meaning.

As well as a writer, I am an art lover and enjoy exploring artistic ways to showcase my writing. I came across Letter pressing and have adopted this practice ever since. I'm intrigued by the imperfect aesthetic of letterpress pieces and the sense of history they create, as some of the letters used are hundreds of years old. I create statement pieces using words, phrases and affirmations that derive from my own writing. I want to showcase and celebrate words as a
form of expression. The worn, blemished effect created by letter pressing is not only classical and captivating, but emblematic of a time when  communication via the written word was natural.

I have showcased my work at Artwalk Wakefield and have a growing presence on medium and Instagram. I am a member of Leeds Print workshop and Script Yorkshire where I continue to practice and enhance my skills.
