PRINTMAKER PROFILE

BIOGRAPHY

Lisa Chappell is a London based artist and currently works as Specialist Screenprint Technician at London College of Communication.

Lisa’s practice explores motion, stillness and the passage of time: focussing on fleeting moments, shifting views and changing light, as seen through windows and digital devices.

She has a particular interest in photo print processes, translating spontaneous phone pictures via “slow” multi layered processes such as photo etching, photo litho and screenprint.

Recent work explores RGB inks on black paper. In these works, light refractive particles in the inks serve to emulate the artificial light emitted from digital devices, but also subtly alter the surface as the viewer moves past the image, creating a literal shift in light and perception of colour.

The Lockdown Skies series arose from photos taken during the Covid pandemic and the idea of experiencing life through a screen. The resulting CMYK screenprints utilise the easily recognisable phone screen shape and size.
