Jo Simister

PRINTMAKER PROFILE

ARTIST STATEMENT

Jo Simister was originally a teacher of art in secondary schools in the midlands before life took her into international student management and then out to the Middle East as a member of the international non-governmental development community.

Her main media were printing, batik and pottery, and extensive photography while travelling.

Now semi-retired, she has recently returned to printing after recklessly offering to help a colleague complete a book by providing some illustrations: the submissions for this exhibition are from 20 lino prints for the book, ‘Saints of Derbyshire’, which is expected to be published in June 2021.

Jo has particularly enjoyed the historical research which has accompanied the evolution of these designs, and expects to continue illustration using linocut.
