Heather Boxall

I am an artist based in West Yorkshire and share a printmaking studio, Garage Printworks, with a small group of printmakers. While my wider body of work includes painting and stained glass—mediums through which I explore light, colour, and materiality—my recent work has focused specifically on printmaking and in particular, my ongoing project titled Colour Standards. Initiated in 2018, this series is inspired by the British Colour Council Dictionary of Colour Standards (1951 edition), a historic reference guide that featured 240 colour swatches woven from silk thread. Originally produced to create consistency in the textile and decorative industries, the dictionary has served as a springboard for my exploration of colour as cultural memory and personal perception.
