PRINTMAKER PROFILE

ARTIST STATEMENT

During my brief career as a Librarian in the north-east of England I went on an introduction to printmaking course at Northern Print Studios. This experience stayed with me and was further bolstered by visits to printmakers at various Open Studio events. After a further course at Somerset College of Art & Technology, I joined Double Elephant Print Workshop (DEPW) in Exeter where I did further courses and started to hone my linocutting skills. Ten or so years later I am now a Director at DEPW and the principal tutor in relief printmaking and letterpress, as well as a tutor on some of the term-long courses.

The endless possibilities, techniques and processes that can be explored in the various mediums within printmaking make it a powerful and utterly engrossing activity. It combines aesthetic judgement, problem solving and an ongoing quest to master the process.

I regularly exhibit my work in galleries and other exhibitions around the region, and in 2015 I had a piece selected for The Masters – Relief Prints exhibition at The Bankside Gallery, exhibiting home of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers.
My current preoccupation is exploring bold colour, shape and texture within the medium of screenprinting.
