ARTIST STATEMENT

Janet Wootton has spent her career in the creative industries: as a journalist; a press officer; government information officer; broadcasting regulator and communications consultant. These roles all have communications at their heart and this transfers to her art which is usually in an abstract form.
She works in a variety of mediums from watercolour, oils, pastels, ceramics, printing, textiles felt, wood, aluminium and even recycled plastic bags. Surface and colour lead her work which is often inspired by a photographic image, found object or plants in her garden.

Janet studied for a BA in Fine Art at the University of Nottingham and an MA at Nottingham Trent University.

She is an amateur singer and Trustee of Music for Everyone and Nottingham Operatic Society. Music often finds its way into her artwork.

Janet is a member of the Kith Artist Collective and Rufford Art Group. Profits from the sale of her artworks benefit local charities and currently the St Martha’s Broxtowe, Nottingham Foodbank.
