PRINTMAKER PROFILE

ARTIST STATEMENT

Emily Grenville-Grey (b. 1991) is a painter and printmaker based in South East London. By contemplating existential questions, Emily seeks to utilise her artistic practice to cultivate and convey narratives that delve deeper into observations validating a life led with the aim of achieving a distinct sense of self.

Primarily focusing on self-portraiture, her recent work has aimed to explore the origins and perpetuation of power and intuition in women beyond their reproductive years, devoid of biological imperatives. This exploration is particularly poignant as she awaits surgery to remove organs impacted by Endometriosis.

With a degree in Maths with Economics from UCL, Emily has worked in banking and tech and still freelances in analytics and product strategy.

Starting to paint during the lock down in 2020, she studied at The Art Academy in London on day a week from 2021-2023 and continues to take short courses, completing a 3-month intensive term at The Royal Drawing School in the spring term of 2024.

In 2023, Emily exhibited at Bankside Gallery as part of the RE’s annual International Original Open Call and has shown pieces as part of other open call selections such as Bainbridge Print Open and ING Discerning Eye exhibitions.
