PRINTMAKER PROFILE

ARTIST STATEMENT

The inspiration for my work is the natural world, using drawing and photography to develop ideas. My training was in painting and printmaking, but since setting up my workspace with my own etching press, I’ve focused on printmaking. In my earlier work, I used traditional etching and aquatint techniques using acid, but now I prefer the safer methods of drypoint and photo etching using solar plates.

Recurring themes are – plants, fossils and other natural forms. I am also interested in rock art, particularly cup and ring carvings. Working on two plates enables me to make colour combinations and to layer image with text and pattern. Later prints feature Den building, discovered on woodland walks during lockdown. I often produce two or more views of each structure.
