PRINTMAKER PROFILE

BIOGRAPHY

I was never meant to be a master. My steadfast curiosity and meandering mind have compelled me to keep exploring different artistic disciplines and to excitedly search for unusual and interesting ways to combine different approaches to articulate my ideas. Three core media – printmaking, ceramics and analogue  photography – underpin my explorations, and these are linked by the manual nature of the processes. I feel the need to engage intimately with my art, to feel as though I have put something of myself into it, physically as well as emotionally.

As with my medium, the subject of my work varies considerably, but this always links back to my own personal experiences: experiences of being a disabled woman, of being a part of the natural world, of being part of a community and a family or simply of having lived a life that is unique to me. My recent work has been engaged with the idea of memory; I have an archival urge, fuelled by my fear of  forgetting, so I have been exploring the idea of preserving the ephemeral.
