Astrid Weigel

Astrid Weigel is an Angus based screen printer working from her home in N.E. Scotland as well as a member of the Dundee Contemporary Art’s print  studio. Originally a printed textile designer, Astrid has for several years been producing a range of hand printed textile-based products; more recently she has pivoted to printing on paper, enjoying the new challenges this has brought.

Her work draws inspiration primarily from nature, formal gardens and the nuances of daily life, blending these themes with geometric shapes and diverse textures to create stylized, colourful imagery. Her prints start life as an original drawing from which she produces hand painted positives with the occasional helping hand from Photoshop too. The act of pulling the ink through the screen is Astrid’s favourite part of the process.
