Sharon Baker

PRINTMAKER PROFILE

ARTIST STATEMENT

Sharon is a printmaker working with photopolymer intaglio and lithography. She uses familiar, everyday imagery exploring ideas around nostalgia, class and cultural heritage to question what people value in art and in life. Her practice responds to her environment and how people affect, influence and change it. She likes to focus on the ubiquitous and celebrates the banality of familiar objects and scenes. Curtains and windows are reoccurring motifs, as are mirrors. She is fascinated by the mysteries of the interiors they screen, reveal and reflect.

Sharon has been an artist for over thirty years. Her work has been shown in international print competitions and in exhibitions across Europe and the UK and displayed in the House of Commons. In 2022 she was awarded a printmaking residency at the Grafikwerkstatt, Dresden, selected by the Coventry Dresden Arts exchange. She makes prints from her home studio using her beloved ‘Bewick and Wilson’ etching press.
